THANK YOU for your interest in being a volunteer Member in "The STAR MATES Experiment" to test the accuracy of a new advanced astrological "compatibility matching" program. After you and 199+ others have submitted valid Entry Forms, I will run my astrology program to match you against all 199+ new STAGE 2 Members (plus any of the 200+ STAGE 1 Members who indicated on their Contact Request Form that they wished to remain active in the ASTRO database).

Please use this FREE ENTRY FORM-2 to join as a volunteer for STAGE 2 of "The STAR-MATES Experiment". If you already have a Member Number registered in STAGE 1, you may use this Entry Form to:
(1) change your email address;
(2) submit corrections to your original application;
(3) indicate your wish to remain active in the ASTRO database until 1999.
(4) enter an "anonymous" email Contact-Address to be given to other Members who may wish to contact you after being matched to you on their Search Report (which was not permitted in STAGE 1).
(You must enter answers in ALL the boxes on this Entry Form, so I can verify that you are who you say you are by comparing them to your original application).

UPDATE - Entries to STAGE 1 of The STAR-MATES Experiment were closed in April; but STAGE 2 of The STAR-MATES Experiment will start soon, hopefully in late MAY 1998, once I complete the transition to a new computer system and write some new software to handle the larger database. Please read the STAGE-2-INFO page before using this Entry Form.

All new Entry Form applications received will be kept on file and entered in the order they were received; but you will not receive a confirmation of your Entry Form until some new programs have been written to automate the processing of all the applications, confirmation letters, and Search Reports. If you are automatically sent to the |CHECK-IN| page a few moments after clicking the SEND button below, you will know your Entry Form definitely HAS been emailed to Michael Star.

THIS PAGE AND THE ENTRY FORM MAY BE REVISED once STAGE 2 "officially" begins; but you may use it NOW if you wish to secure a priority position on the Waiting List for FREE Membership, even if you may be asked to submit a new official Entry Form for STAGE 2 when it is officially announced. You will be NOTIFIED of the starting date by email IF you enter your email address correctly on this Entry Form.

The "VISITOR" number at the TOP of this page will become your APPLICATION NUMBER. Please WRITE IT DOWN somewhere, and also TYPE IT into the "Application Number" box on your ENTRY FORM below. Do not worry if it is over 200 -- you might still get "in" for free, because:
(1) some earlier applicants who have submitted non-working email addresses will be removed to make room for you; and
(2) not all Application Numbers are actually used on valid Entry Forms.

Your APPLICATION NUMBER will be used to anonymously identify you on a |CHECK-IN| page showing which Entry Forms were not completed correctly. This may be the ONLY way to notify you, so please RECORD your number by writing it down where you can find it again, and WATCH for the |CHECK-IN| page hyperlink at the TOP of the |HOME| page or the |STAR-MATES| page. If you SEE your number was listed as NOT accepted nor received, submit a NEW Entry Form quickly before the entries are closed, so you don't miss your chance to be in "The Experiment".

If you are RE-applying because your application was incomplete, please use your ORIGINAL Application Number, or the new VISITOR Number if you lost it.

If you are CHANGING your EMAIL ADDRESS, use your ORIGINAL Application Number (or 000 if you forgot it), and be sure to enter ALL the data requested on this Entry Form so I can verify you are the person you say you are by matching it to your original data (like birth time).

I can only GUARANTEE the first 200 applicants a FREE Search Report. Some Members may no longer have a working E-MAIL ADDRESS when the Search Reports are sent in a few weeks. IF this occurs, they will be REPLACED by applicants on the WAITING LIST (who may not get listed on any of the earlier Search Reports going to the original group, but WILL be matched against ALL active Members when their OWN Search Report is produced).

Please note that unless your Entry Form is ** FULLY COMPLETED ** you will NOT be guaranteed entry into the STAR MATES Experiment unless you RE-APPLY on a NEW and acceptable Entry Form BEFORE the first 200 Members have been accepted. This means you need to *ANSWER EVERY QUESTION*. Do not leave ANY answer boxes blank now, or you will just have to RE-APPLY later, and will slow down the process for everyone.

The |CHECK-IN| page will later list Search Reports SENT OUT, using the Application Number you enter here, so you can see if your email address was correctly submitted.

*** If you submit an Entry Form NOW it will be for the WAITING LIST for STAGE 2, which includes some changes and additional options not offerred in STAGE 1. Please understand that there are no promises or guarantees being offerred at this time that your Entry will qualify for the 200 FREE Memberships; but if you submit a FULLY COMPLETED Entry Form now you WILL be placed on the STAGE 2 Waiting List and all accepted Applications will be processed in the order in which they were received.

You may not be eligible now for free Membership but if you wish to complete an Entry Form anyway to join the Waiting List in case positions open up later, then feel free to complete this Entry Form. You will be notified by email if and when a free Membership becomes available should other earlier applications be found to be incomplete or have non-working email addresses.

Note that the Application Number itself does not indicate your exact position on the Waiting List because:
(1) some numbers from 500-999 were already on the Waiting List;
(2) many numbers are not used (if the completed form is not sent in);
(3) some incomplete applications are not accepted and must be re-submitted under a new number which will be higher than the original.

(2) you must have your OWN private email address registered with an ISP, or a personal and private email address at your place of business, or at an educational institution.
You may submit an anonymous "Contact-Address" to be given out to other Members for making contact, but you MUST enter your own "Private-Address" on the Entry Form (which will be verified and then kept CONFIDENTIAL unless you choose to enter it as your "Contact-Address" too). You will be receiving email addresses of people who may be giving you their personal or company email address, and are entitled to expect that you have at least registered your personal or company address with the official manager of The Experiment. In order to take every reasonable precaution to protect the privacy of all Members and screen out insincere or irresponsible applicants or pranksters, this requirement that you submit "in confidence" your real name and your personal email address, which has been registered with an ISP or employer or educational institution and can be verified, is a non-negotiable condition of acceptance for Membership in The Experiment.

Without it, your application will NOT be accepted, and if you cannot be contacted at the email addresses you submit, your Membership will be de-activated. Thank you for your co-operation in making The Experiment an enjoyable experience for all.

I will not release your address to any other mailing lists without first obtaining your written permission; and my professional ethics as an astrologer will not allow me to tell your birth year or time to anyone without your permission.

Please enter your PRIVATE email address which will be kept confidential. In a survey question on the Contact Request Form, most of the Members in STAGE 1 have indicated their preference to disallow the use of anonymous email addresses like "@hotmail.com" or "@juno.com" and require all participants to use the one registered with their own Internet Service Provider (or the company they work for). The reason: to ensure all participants are sincere adults who will be responsible for their conduct, not someone hiding behind an anonymous address. In light of this and other considerations, I have decided on this compromise:

(1) You must provide your own PRIVATE email address at an ISP or company or college to APPLY for Membership in The Experiment, so that your confidential real name and address are on file and every Member will know that each other Member has submitted his real address to me, Michael Star, for verification. Generally, what is meant by a PRIVATE email address is one with a company or institution which has required you to PROVE you are who you say you are by providing identification or banking information.
(2) You may use an ANONYMOUS or web-based email forwarding service -OR- your private address for CONTACTING other Members and receiving your Search Reports or notices regarding The Experiment; so that you do not have to reveal your real name or address to other Members until you feel comfortable about doing so. Generally, what is meant by an ANONYMOUS email address is one with a FREE mail-forwarding service (eg. hotmail.com) which does NOT require you to PROVE you are who you say you are.

A short and discreet address verification note, which will NOT mention the nature of "The Experiment" or the URL to any |STAR-MATES| pages, will be sent to both your PRIVATE-ADDRESS and CONTACT-ADDRESS; and if either is returned as undeliverable your Entry Form will be considered bogus and will be deleted.

(I would think your "matches" would prefer to contact a "real" name, not a cryptic "username". Wouldn't you?
