If you have already read the introduction to "The Experiment" you may wish to skip to the |TERMS| section now.

THANK YOU for your interest in participating as a Member in "The STAR MATES Experiment" to test the accuracy of my new advanced astrological COMPATIBILITY matching program. After you and 99 applicants have submitted valid Entry Forms, I will run my astrology program to match you against all 99 Members; then email you a FREE Search Report which lists your "Top 5" matches based on the average of seven rating factors listed on the Report. You may then complete one CONTACT FORM to request the email address of any or all of your best matches (who may be male OR female) and then write them to find out if they prove to be as compatible as Internet Friends (or perhaps as a cyberspace Soul-Mate!) as the program's rating system predicted! Other Members may have YOU on THEIR "Top 5" lists too, and you may receive email from them as well.

Hopefully, you and many other participants will report back to me on how well my program performed, using a questionnaire included with the Search Report. If all goes well, you will be invited to remain active in the dataBASE until 1998 as a Charter Member, at no cost, when I start taking applications for an Internet Friends and/or Internet Romance matching service (the name has not yet been determined). As new members join, you may be matched to some of them when THEY order Search Reports, and some may contact you by email if they are interested. You may choose to be entered in any one database of your choice for finding either friendship or romance, or in a dataBASE of people sharing a common interest (such as Astrology) or a particular group (such as college students).

Due to the great deal of work involved in processing 100 applications at once, I am afraid I will have to streamline things by insisting that ALL the following TERMS OF ACCEPTANCE be agreed to if you wish to participate for FREE in "The STAR MATES Experiment". If you feel you cannot accept all of them, please accept my apologies and select the hyperlink to return to the HOME page.

1. All applicants must be 18 YEARS OF AGE or older at the time of application.
   
   
2. All applications must be made using the official ENTRY FORM. Applications by email will NOT be accepted (and may not be acknowledged promptly).
   
   
3. All applications must contain A PERSONAL E-MAIL ADDRESS unique to ONE individual, and which is expected to remain effective until at least DEC 31 1996 (mid 2000 for Waiting List applications). Addresses may be tested to ensure the application is valid.
   (If you are on-line for a "free trial" period from a service like America On-Line, please do not enter unless you plan to keep the same address.)
   Applications which indicate an email address at "hotmail.com" or any ANONYMOUS mail forwarding service will NOT be accepted.
   

   You WILL be placed on the Waiting List IF you re-submit an acceptable Entry Form before the final closing date, but your position on the list will be determined by the time you re-submit an acceptable Entry Form, not by the date of your incomplete Entry Form. So please be careful to answer ALL questions on the Entry Form, so you won't miss your chance to participate!

4. All ENTRY FORMS must provide answers to EVERY question, or they will be rejected and the applicant's position number will be forfeited.
   (I am sorry, but I just don't have time to follow-up on incomplete Entry Forms.)
   
   
5. Applications found to contain false information will be rejected, and not subject to appeal. I reserve the right to decline or cancel the free membership of anyone deemed to be acting in a manner which is disturbing to other members, disrupting the proceedings of The Experiment, or endangering the right to privacy, peace, or safety of any Member.
   
   
6. Applications will not be accepted after the FINAL closing date announced on the STAR SIGNS Astrology Zine home page. Once entries are closed, the ENTRY FORM will be replaced by a notice.
   

1. In submitting your Entry Form, you will be deemed to have accepted all of the TERNS and CONDITIONS for Membership in The STAR MATES Experiment, as listed on this page.
   
   
2. As a Member, you agree to have your personal email address, your FIRST NAME or nickname (not last name), and your MONTH and DAY (not year) of birth released to any other Members who are matched to you by the astrological compatibility matching program.
   
   
3. As a Member of "The Experiment" you agree to make at least ONE attempt to correspond by email with EACH of the five Members listed on your own Search Report.
   
   
4. As a Member of "The Experiment", you agree to answer at least ONE email letter from any other Member who writes to you and quotes YOUR "Member Number" (which only appears on the Search Reports of other Members where YOU were listed as one of their "Top 5" matches). You understand and accept that it is POSSIBLE for someone (with a birth horoscope which matches well to many others) to appear on many OTHER Member's "Top 5" lists; so YOU MIGHT receive additional email letters from Members who did not appear on your OWN "Top 5" list.
   
   
5. In accepting your Membership by receiving your first Search Report, you agree to assume sole responsibility for the outcome of any contacts you make with other Members; and agree that Michael Star and STAR SIGNS Astrology Zine shall not be held liable for the consequences of your decision to contact any other Member by email, in person, or by any other means.
   
   
6. You will be entitled to FREE entry into membership in "The STAR MATES Experiment" dataBASE, and one FREE Search Report in that dataBASE when the total membership reaches one hundred Members, and one FREE Contact Request Form which entitles you to receive the email addresses submitted by the five Members listed on your FREE Search Report as the most compatible matches to you within that dataBASE. Your entitlement to free services in exchange for your participation in "The STAR MATS Experiment" are limited to those listed in this paragraph.
   
   
7. If "The Experiment" proceeds into further stages and accepts new Members, you MAY be invited to remain active in the dataBASE at no charge for a period up to but not beyond December 31, 1997; however, your entitlement to free services will be limited to those customarily accorded to any other Member for active membership in one dataBASE for one year, and will be considered the equivalent of waiving the initial Entry Fee.

ASTROLOGERS: Please do NOT adjust BIRTH TIME to G.M.T. or U.T. and do NOT adjust for Daylight Savings Time. My program uses your LOCAL birth time and automatically corrects for time zone, location, and D.S.T.)
