The Solar Horoscope Forecast
How It's Done - How to Use It
The Free Weekly Horoscope Forecasts at STAR SIGNS Astrology Zine are for people born with Sun in each of the twelve zodiac Signs, or with Ascendant in those Signs, or with those Rising Signs in their natal horoscope. Because our calendar year is based on the motion of the earth around the Sun (but from our point of view it appears the Sun is moving around the earth), the zodiac Sign the Sun appears in corresponds very closely with the dates on our calendar. For example, the Sun appears (in the tropical zodiac) in the Sign of Taurus each year from APR 20 to MAY 20 (plus or minus one day, depending on the year).
A typical "horoscope column" based on Sun Signs is done without knowing exactly where any of the planets are located in an individual's personal horoscope, so it is limited in scope by this lack of complete birth data. Your personal monthly horoscope reading with more details, using your exact birth data, may be ordered for $5 to $30 and sent by email by selecting any |Read-You| or |YOUR Horoscope| hot-link on any "Link-to" menu at the STAR SIGNS Astrology Zine website.
The weekly Horoscope Readings are updated every Monday after noon (Toronto and New York time). If you think you were born "on the cusp" of the next or previous Sign, read the notes about Cusps near the end of this page. To read more about the Rising Sign and Ascendant in your personal horoscope chart, see that section near the end of this page.
About the Solar Chart Horoscope Reading
The general Weekly Horoscope Forecast is based on an astrological technique called "the Solar Chart". Because the actual date and time and place of birth for a particular person is not known, certain assumptions have been made to create this horoscope reading, which will apply to anyone born between certain dates of any year, when the Sun is traversing a certain zodiac Sign. That Sign is called your "Sun Sign" and the word "solar" means "of the Sun". There are other ways to do a horoscope reading. This method uses the "natural houses" of your horoscope chart and the "transits" of the "personal planets" through those houses, based on your particular Sun Sign.
Sun Sign, Moon Sign, Ascendant Sign
The Sun Sign horoscope applies more to deeper things such as your character, integrity, and beliefs about who and what you are, and how you make important decisions in life; while the Ascendant Sign horoscope applies more to how things appear on the surface or affect how you "see yourself" and how you appear to others. The Ascendant is how you APPEAR, and the Sun is what you really ARE. You might also want to check the horoscope for your Moon Sign and see if the issues mentioned there apply to you, but more on an emotional level - such as your feelings or fears, or your sense of security and safety.
If you don't know your Ascendant Sign and Moon Sign, you can find out by ordering your own personal "Natal Horoscope Chart and Planetary Aspect List" at the |ORDER-FORM| link for US $5, or get it as a free bonus in the $15 "Six-Pack" with five personal horoscope readings.
What is a real Horoscope?
People often refer to an astrological forecast such as this one - or to the Sun Sign columns in the newspapers and magazines - as a "horoscope". A horoscope is actually a map of Space-Time (an "image of the hour" as its Greek root words imply), which shows where the Sun and Moon and Planets are located in relationship to each other, and to a particular place on Earth, at a specific instant in Time. Your own birth horoscope is "a picture of your place in Time and Space"!
The Natal Horoscope Chart
If that instant in Time is the time of birth of an individual, then THAT horoscope is called his "natal horoscope" or "natal chart" or "birth chart". "Natal" means "at time of birth", and comes from the same root word as "nativity". In the language of astrologers, the "native" (a noun) refers to the individual whose natal horoscope is being interpreted, and "native" (the adjective form) means "relating to the natal horoscope".
What the average person calls "a horoscope" is actually a reading of that map of the heavens, or an interpretation in words of that horoscope chart's symbolic meaning. Unless you are a student of astrology who knows how to read the map, you will not get too much useful information from a real "horoscope" (the chart), any more than you would from looking at your own chest X-ray unless you were a doctor trained in reading X-ray images. (So if you want an interpretation of your horoscope chart, ask for "a horoscope reading" not "a horoscope".)
The Horoscope Reading
An interpretation of the meaning of the horoscope is called a "horoscope reading" or a "delineation of the horoscope". When a horoscope is calculated (i.e. the horoscope is "cast") for the purpose of predicting possible or probable influences on thoughts, emotions, actions, or events in the human experience, that instant in Time used to calculate it is the present time or some time in the future. That horoscope is then compared to the natal (birth) horoscope of the person for whom the astrological forecast is being prepared. There are usually at least TWO horoscopes being used when making astrological forecasts.
Planetary Positions
The positions of the Sun and Moon and Planets at that particular time and place are compared to their positions at the time and place of the person's birth, by looking at their present or future positions in relationship to the Signs and Houses in the birth horoscope chart, and to the angles ("aspects") they make to their original positions at the time of birth. Each is compared to each of the others, as well as to comparing its present or future position to its own original position in Space-Time at the time and place of the person's birth. Each of these factors has a meaning, and a complete reading of the horoscope integrates them all into a useful explanation. You can see how complex a FULL reading of the horoscope can be, compared to the few lines in a newspaper horoscope column, or to the general Sun Sign forecasts at STAR SIGNS Astrology Zine.
About the general weekly horoscope forecast
This particular horoscope forecast simply looks at what House in the birth horoscope the Sun, Moon, Venus and Mars are presently transiting (ie. moving through) and then interprets the possible manifestation of thoughts, feelings, actions and events which are most likely to take place when each Planet is in that particular House. While a Planet is transiting a particular House in the horoscope, there is a focus on the areas of life represented by that House - the issues symbolized by the Planet are most likely to "come up" in some form in those facets of one's life symbolized by that House. Whatever the issues are, there will be a decision required to deal with them, even if the desicion is to ignore or avoid the issue entirely.
Same Play, Different Players
Note that it is the issues or themes which the horoscope indicates, and you should always look behind an event to see if it is just one of the possible forms in which a certain issue may manifest. Sometimes the issue or event involves someone else, and you are only a participant or merely a witness to the way this issue is coming up for them to experience, and for you to observe.
It is still YOUR issue too, even if it appears not to be "happening TO you". You should take a close look at how this issue could have some particular MEANING for YOU. Ask yourself how you feel about what you see, what you believe about it. And the best clue for you could come from trying to remember when something similar happened in your life, how you felt then, and what belief you formed as a result.
A Clue for You
What you see "happening", or how you are "feeling" about it, is very likely a clue for you in bringing your attention to a belief or habit which needs to be corrected - because it is keeping you from being happy or successful or at peace with yourself. It might be a clue to what is really happening in your life (what it's all ABOUT, not what it LOOKS LIKE on the surface). Or it might be a valuable clue to finding the solution which resolves the issue, or the best way of dealing with whatever is blocking your happiness. Or it may be a clue to what you are attracting to yourself as a result of your intentions or desires or beliefs - people, things, or situations which you want (or do not want).
You will probably find that whatever makes you angry or afraid is the very thing that you need to look at. When you find yourself reacting to something "out there" you probably have something "in here" - in your memory or your unconscious mind - which is reminding you of a past experience: the feelings you felt about it, and the beliefs you chose to form about it.
Coincidence? I Think Not...
There are no coincidences - if an issue is coming up "in your face" it is because you need to take a good look at it!
Even if it appears to be a negative or painful thing, it is coming up to help HEAL you, not HURT you. Often it is your resistance to the Truth which causes pain or unpleasantness, while seeing the Truth is what can heal you. You will probably find in the end that it is less painful to deal with an issue than to try to resist dealing with it. If it hurts, you are probably doing it wrong!
Choose Again
If the transiting Planets in your horoscope indicate that an issue is coming up now, it is because now is the best time for you to face it and make some new choices about it this time. If you made the best choices the last time it came up, then you may find that the new situation which presents that old issue (in a different form, and perhaps with new players) is much easier to deal with this time. It's an opportunity to know that you know how to deal with it in the best way. If you made some errors in the past, then now is your opportunity to choose again and make a better choice for all concerned.
The Future is Now
We can only make choices in the Present, but those choices are what create a particular Future. If we want a better Future, we need to make better choices in the Present - and not hold onto any choices from the Past which have not created a happy Present. This is why it is more important to focus on - and understand - what is happening NOW, than what we think the horoscope will "foretell" about "the future". If we do not like our Present condition, we must start to change it NOW so it will improve our Future.
We do have this power to create our own Reality, and the only way to do that is to make the best choices in the Present. If we remain focused on the Future, we will forget that we are creating it in the Present - and that we created this Present in the Past!
Pain is not Punishment
It may help to understand that "pain is feed-back", or: "If it hurts, then you are doing it wrong". Often, what is "wrong" is our personal belief about what is true or not true - and when we believe something is true we keep looking for evidence which proves it to ourselves, even if it really isn't true at all. When the issue comes up again in our horoscope and in our personal "real life", it is another opportunity to change our mind about what is the real Truth, and stop looking for evidence to prove something is true which never was true.
Truth Does Not Need Defending
The real Truth does not need proving or defending - it is self-evident to anyone who does not refuse to see it. The Sun rises in the East every day - that is Truth. Do you really need "evidence" to believe it will rise again tomorrow? If someone chooses not to believe that Truth, do you really need to defend it? If you wait until tomorrow, he will see it for himself. If you try to offer "evidence" to defend this Truth, you will still have to wait until tomorrow for the Truth to show itself, and it will do so whether you were defending it or not.
On the other hand, if you chose not to believe this Truth and believed something else instead, you would have to make an effort to not look at the Truth coming up every day. You'd have to keep looking for "evidence" that your cherished belief in a false "truth" is still true for you. You can do this by shutting your eyes to the Truth shining in your face, or by looking away when it is right in front of you. You can also try to explain away the Truth by looking at shadows and saying there is no sunlight there - so there must be no sunlight at all. Of course, the Truth - that sun shining from the East - really is there and everywhere, even if you choose not to look at it and claim it can't be there because you can't see it.
I've been talking about the Sun because it's a pretty obvious Truth. Also, this essay is about the Solar horoscope. The Sun is in your birth horoscope, in every person's horoscope, and it represents the Truth of who you are "deep down inside". It is something like what we call "character" or "the core of your being" or "your essence" or your "essential Self". It is the "light" of your life, that burns in you and shines from you while you live in your body.
It is there whether you chose to believe it or not, whether you choose to believe it is "good" or "bad" or "not good enough". It is shining inside whether you choose to put up blocks to keep it from shining forth, or to deny it entirely. It is your personal Truth. And because this Truth is your "paradigm" for living, it is what will determine all the important choices you make in your life.
That we all have the Sun in our horoscope chart, and this "light" within us that sustains our existence, is a universal Truth. That we each express this Truth in different ways is a function of the Sign the Sun appeared in at the moment of our becoming an independent being when we draw our first breath. I call this "way" of expressing our Truth our overall "strategy" for living - and each Sun Sign indicates a particular set of "strategies" we choose from in expressing ourselves and in making our choices in life.
The Gravity of the Situation
"Difficult" transits do not have to be troublesome if you make the best choices. You are in control of your own reality; but resisting the physical and spiritual Laws of the Universe do have consequences which often involve some degree of pain or suffering. For example, the same Law of Gravity which floats a boat or creates the air pressure which lifts an airplane when you work with it, can also drop you and break your bones if you try to fight or ignore Gravity and walk off a cliff.
Truth or Consequences
The pain is just a way of telling you that it was a mistake to try to fly without allowing air pressure to lift you the way the birds do. It would also be a painful mistake to not allow air pressure to force air into your lungs so you can breathe. Gravity isn't "out to get you", and neither are the Planets. When you act on a belief that is not Truth (eg. that you can ignore Gravity) you invite some painful feed-back to warn you of your mistake. It is your way of choosing to deal with what you see outside yourself that creates the consequences of those choices.
Not Choosing is a Choice Too
And remember that not making a choice, or ignoring an issue, is still a choice that has consequences too. "None of the above" is a valid answer to the question. It is one of the choices we make when we don't make any other choice. Sometimes it's a good choice. Sometimes it isn't the best one for us; and not making any choice can lead to painful feed-back if making a certain choice was the appropriate strategy. When that other guy who ignored Gravity is falling off the cliff and about to land on your head, the best choice is to make that choice to move ... right now!
The Sign Shows the Strategy
A person's likely current strategies for dealing with those issues are indicated by the Sign the transiting Planet is in now. His natural long-term strategies are indicated by the Sign in the birth horoscope which that House overlaps. Just as we have our own set of strategies for our basic way of expressing our Self (indicated by the Sun Sign), we also have other sets of strategies for dealing with other aspects of ourselves. These are indicated by the Signs the various Planets appeared in at birth, and we carry this basic set of strategies for life.
But at various times in our life we experience a tendency to combine these basic strategies with other strategies (indicated by the Sign the transiting Planet is in at the time). We can look at the current transit chart to get clues about the most appropriate strategies to apply at this time.
However, since we do not know which Sign that would actually be for a particular person in the group (except for the Sun Sign), the Sign in the birth horoscope is not considered in this forecast (but you can bet that the typical Sun in Capricorn person will use the strategies of pragmatism and perseverance and practicality, plus some shrewdness and "playing it safe").
The Sign the transiting Planet is moving through this week is known; but is the same for all people on Earth, so it is not mentioned in the weekly horoscope forecast. The House it is moving through in an individual's birth horoscope depends on the person's particular birth date and time, which is why this particular forecast is based on the Houses - in this case, the "Solar Houses", which are determined by the Sun Sign (which we can always know just from the month and day of birth).
Note that ONLY in a "Solar Horsocope" chart do the House cusps align with the Sign cusps; but in a horoscope chart calculated for an individual using his or her actual hour and minute of birth, it is rare for the House cusps and Sign cusps to be aligned. Signs are always 30 degrees in width, but Houses in a real birth chart can be greater or less than 30 degrees in width. People born at dawn have the Sun exactly at the point of the Ascendant at that time of day, and thus the Sun will be on the First House cusp) and if they were born at dawn on the day of the Spring Equinox (around March 21) both their Sun and Ascendant and First House cusp will be right at 0 degrees of Aries. But since the Houses are wider or narrower than the Signs (unless you were born right on the Equator) the House cusps and Sign cusps will not be aligned exactly (only the First and Seventh House cusps will be at 0 degrees of a Sign). In other words, it is quite rare for an individual to have the House cusps and the Signs cusps the same in his birth horoscope. They are assumed to be aligned in the "Solar Horoscope" only because without knowing the exact birth time we would not know where the House cusps would be.
Always remember that the "Solar Chart" is a theoretical type of chart, not a "real" or "actual" representation of the individual's personal horoscope. It is used for teaching purposes or for those cases where the birth time is not known. It is not perfect, but it works quite well to provide many (but not all) of the insights a regular birth horoscope would provide when the actual birth time was known.
Moon Motion
The Moon is not considered in this horoscope forecast because it moves so quickly that it would pass through three or four different Houses in a week. The Moon is used as a primary indicator in daily horoscope forecasts, and often indicates a passing "mood" or emotional influence. The outer Planets move so slowly that they would remain in the same House for several weeks, months, or even years; and thus are considered in monthly and yearly forecasts instead of a weekly forecast like this. Outer Planet transits indicate major issues in life, and should be considered important opportunities to make the necessary changes in attitudes or habits which have not worked for you in the past.
In the House
To get more insights on what areas of your life are associated with a particular House read the article The Astrological Houses by Michael Star in the "Teach Yourself Astrology" series listed on the |HOME| page of STAR SIGNS Astrology Zine. Each of the transiting Planets is passing through a particular House in your natal horoscope, and the general Weekly Forecast on this site lists the House in your Solar Chart the Sun and three of the inner "Personal Planets" are passing through this week. Check the article on Houses to find the kinds of things that are most likely to be emphasized in your life when the Sun or a Planet is moving through that House. The most common ones are mentioned in the Free Weekly Horoscopes at STAR SIGNS Astrology Zine, but you might find other things that apply more specifically to YOU by reading the article on Houses.
Focus on the Forest, not the Trees
If you observe your life carefully from a detached and broader viewpoint (philosophical Sagittarius is particularly good at this), you may see certain themes or issues coming up in several situations around the same time, even though the events or the people involved may be different in each case. If you ask yourself, "What is this all ABOUT?" you may find the answer is something that you will see being presented to you in more than one situation or event while the Sun or the Planet is moving through the House that "rules" those kinds of things.
If you see three or more similar situations coming up around the same time, it is no coincidence - it is the Synchronicity between the movements of the heavenly bodies, and issues and events in the lives of people on Earth who are attuned to certain angles and positions the Planets may move into, relative to their positions in the birth horoscope of certain people.
Synchronicity: Simultaneous Separate Situations
Synchronicity is a term invented by the great Swiss psychologist, Dr Carl Jung, to describe a "meaningful co-incidence" or an a-causal relationship between two things or events. One does not cause the other, but they can be seen to occur together at the same time. So if you observe one of them occurring, you can assume the other is also happening at the same time. That is basically "how Astrology works".
In Sync: Same Time, Different Space
This synchronization is what allows astrologers to interpret the positions of the Planets as indicators of motivations, feelings, actions and events for the people whose individual horoscopes would be attuned to particular positions of the Planets at any given time. This is the basis for making astrological forecasts and predictions by examining present and future transits of the Planets to the planetary positions in the birth horoscope which you might describe as being "imprinted" at that particular time and place.
All living things that are "born" can have a Horoscope
Groups of humans like countries and corporations, and all living things like dogs and cats and horses, have a time and place of birth; so a natal horoscope chart can be cast for them, as well as for human beings. A corporation is "born" when it is incorporated. A country is "born" when it declares independence or when its leaders sign its charter. THE WORLD THIS WEEK column in STAR SIGNS Astrology Zine is based on the natal horoscopes of world leaders and people in the news, as well as countries and/or corporate entities like multi-national companies and public institutions.
What you call "my sign" is the Section of the sky the Sun was in
Because the horoscope forecast on this web site is being done for a large group of people instead of an individual, the actual time and place of birth for each one of them is not known. But because our calendar is based on the motion of the Earth revolving around the Sun once per year, if we know our month and day of birth we also know what Sign the Sun appeared to be in at the time OUR birth horoscope was cast. The Sun, Moon and all the Planets appear in a narrow band across the sky called "the Zodiac", and the Signs are just equal sections of that 360-degree circle. The distant fixed stars form the stable background of the zodiac, which helps us observe where the moving Planets ("planet" means "wandering star") are located at any time in relationship to this fixed field of star patterns.
The Sun Dial - Our Natural Time Keeper
Because our MONTH and DAY of birth corresponds to the position of the Sun as it appears to move across the zodiac, we CAN make some general assumptions using the SUN and its natal (birth) position; namely that for everyone "born under the Sign of Capricorn" the Sun was SOMEWHERE in that 30-degree section of the sky called Capricorn.
And we DO know exactly where the Sun, Moon and all the Planets are located at the present time, and where they will be located at any time in the next week or in any future month or year; so we can compare their present or future positions (called their "transiting" positions or just "transits") to the natal position of the Sun for everyone in that group. We can assume an average natal position in the center of the Sign, or we can know that at SOME time in the next month the Moon and the faster-moving Planets like Mercury and Venus will move into a particular angular position with respect to the Sun, no matter where it is positioned within that 30-degree Sign sector of the natal horoscope.
The Solar Horoscope Chart
We can also cast a "Solar Chart" for all the people born with, say, the Sun in the Sign of Pisces, by assuming the cusp of the First House (a position known as "the Ascendant" or "rising degree") is at 0 degrees of Pisces. All of the other 11 house cusps (border lines) are then calculated from that point, so that each House represents an equal segment of the sky as viewed from Earth. We do not know the actual place or time of birth for any individual in the group, but the decision to locate the Ascendant at 0 degrees of Pisces also implies that a time and place has been chosen to represent the whole group in a SYMBOLIC sense.
Symbolic Sense
It has been found that by interpreting this symbolic horoscope chart for an entire group of people (about one-twelfth of the population of any large group, or even of the whole world), we can make some astrological predictions about present and future influences and tendencies which will be true in a general sense for most of the people in that group. It's not as good, but it's much more convenient, to just read a generalized interpretation like this than to prepare and interpret a complex horoscope for yourself each week or month, or pay an astrologer to do it for you.
Testing, Testing
This kind of astrological forecast will not be as accurate or specific as it could be for an individual whose specific time and place of birth were used to cast the natal horoscope chart and calculate the exact Sign and degree of the Ascendant and all of that person's House cusps; but it does give some useful information which is the best available under the circumstances, and which is worth considering and observing as the emotions, actions, and events unfold over time - even if only for entertainment, or out of curiosity. Follow your Sun Sign horoscope forecasts each week on this web site and see for yourself if there is any truth revealed in them for you!
If you were "born on the cusp" of a Sign
IF you were born within one day of either of the dates typically given as change-over dates for the various Sun Signs, the SUN may have been in the ADJACENT Sign in your birth horoscope, depending on the YEAR and TIME and PLACE you were born (being on the border line is often called "being on the Cusp"). Only by having your personal Natal Horoscope Chart (birth chart) calculated accurately will you KNOW exactly where the Sun was. But you can GUESS, by reading the horoscope interpretations for BOTH Signs to see if one seems more accurate for you.
Your "Ascendant" and "Rising Sign"
If you know your Ascending Sign or Rising Sign, you may find this astrological forecast for that Sign is even more accurate, since the simplified Solar Chart is actually created by assuming the Ascendant, which is the Cusp of the First House, is located at zero degrees of the Sign the Sun was in at your time and place of birth. If your Sun was in Aries, then your Ascendant is likely to be at some degree in Aries if you were born within about one minute to 120 minutes BEFORE sunrise; so you and other Aries people with pre-dawn births could find this forecast especially accurate. (If you were born within the two hours AFTER sunrise, try reading the horoscope forecast for the next Sign AFTER your Sun Sign).
The "Ascendant" is a point at a particular degree within a particular Sign - the exact degree of the Sign that was on the horizon at the exact hour and minute of birth. The "Rising Sign" or "ascending Sign" is just the Sign in which the Ascendant is positioned. Ascending and rising mean the same thing, and the Ascendant is just the point which is ascending at the time of birth.
The constellations and the Signs continuously appear to "rise" up from the horizon in the East, just like the Sun appears to rise at dawn. The Signs rise in the same order as they are listed in those "horoscope" columns in the newspaper, and if the Sun is appearing in a certain Sign at a particular time of year, that same Sign will be rising in the East at about the same time as the Sun rises. For example, if the Sun were at 5 degrees of Aries on a given day (usually MAR 25), then a point at 5 degrees of Aries would appear exactly on the eastern horizon precisely at the time of first light - that time called "sunrise" or "dawn".
