Michael Star Bio
Michael is a self-taught
Astrologer and Tarot reader with a background in computer programming and electrical engineering. He specializes in original research, new ways of writing Astrology and Tarot interpretations, creating innovative Astrology software, teaching Tarot and Astrology, and
entertaining with Tarot and Astrology readings or astrology-based games at corporate functions and charity fundraising events. He has always been a Seeker, and has read and collected many books on Metaphysics, Psychology, the Ancient Wisdom, and the Arcane Arts.
Helping people learn and apply the ancient arcane arts of Astrology and
Tarot in a modern world is his passion. Though once trained in Science and at first a skeptic of Astrology, he became convinced of the validity and usefulness of Astrology when he actually took the time to study it and test its insights against his own observations. His typically Taurus approach is: "If it works, work with it!"
In his Gemini rising style, Michael has lectured at libraries and Astrology clubs in Toronto and Hamilton, has run inter-active workshops at book stores in the Toronto area, and has provided live entertainment with Astrology and Tarot at events for major corporations, including banks, insurance companies and computer manufacturers. He was invited to do readings at the Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa, and at the Millennium Party at the top of the CN Tower in Toronto. His innovative Astrology software interprets your birth horoscope in a plain language style without the usual astrological jargon.
Michael's approach
to Astrology is down-to-earth (what you'd expect from a
Taurus) - yet he draws on spiritual and mystical traditions, New Age innovations, and intuitive insights, to use Astrology as a tool for self-understanding and self-improvement.
In 1983 Michael began writing Astrology programs on an ancient Commodore 64 computer, and has practised New-Age Astrology as a professional astrologer and lecturer since 1985. He began to study the Tarot in depth in 1989, to write a computer program which can do a valid Tarot reading; and now loves to teach beginners how to set aside the logical, rational mind and tune in to the truths which can be revealed by the intuitive, non-rational mind using symbolic divination systems like the Tarot cards.
Before finding his Aquarian 10th-House calling as a full-time astrologer, and now an entrepreneur on the World Wide Web, Michael tried typical Sun in Taurus careers: engineering (practical), insurance agent and trust company officer (money), and disc-jockey (music).
The versatility of Gemini rising led him to dabble in a variety of other fields: technical writing for
a tele-communications firm; clothing salesman, marketing officer, book publisher's representative (informing and persuading); paralegal researcher (facts collecting); nightclub manager, singles club operator, and dating service owner (socializing and "connecting"). In typical Gemini fashion, Michael often had two jobs or two projects on the go at the same time; and he has that mercurial kind of mind that goes with having Mercury in Gemini.
His other interests include: Astrology and Tarot, Numerology, Psychology, Philosophy, Metaphysics, A Course In Miracles, teaching, travel, motorcycles, animals especially horses (Jupiter in Sagittarius, plus Sagittarius 7th and 8th House); Sci-fi, electronics, new gadgets, computers, the Internet (MidHeaven in Aquarius, and Uranus in 1st House); music, playing piano, keyboards and guitar, singing, dancing, photography, fine dining, cooking and barbequing, growing plants, nature walks, crystal collecting (Sun in Taurus); interesting talks, reading, writing, calligraphy, collecting books, connecting people, public speaking, people-watching at outdoor cafes (Mercury rising in Gemini, plus Gemini on 1st and 2nd House); and being in/on/around the water (Moon and Venus in Cancer, plus Cancer on 3rd House). He hopes to scuba dive and swim with the dolphins someday, take a cruise in the Aegean Sea, and visit Hawaii again. And maybe learn to fly.
Michael Star on Astrology...
Michael Star does not see Astrology as a simplistic or fatalistic view of "what the stars foretell", but as a tool for self-discovery and self-awareness that lets us see the order amidst the chaos and realize new meaning and purpose in our lives. The horoscope chart can also show us our karmic curriculum, the times in our lives when life's major lessons are ready to be presented for teaching or testing.
In Michael's view, the proper use of Astrology is to let us see "the map of our Soul's journey" in this lifetime; which can be read in the horoscope by the positions of the Sun, Moon and Planets at the time and place of our birth. Just as the genetic coding of our body's cells can be examined in a microscope, the unique coding of our psyche can be examined in the macro-scope of the heavens which we call "the horoscope". The word horoscope translated from the Greek actually means "image of the hour", and the horoscope chart is just that... a two-dimensional map of the 3-D picture of the sky above (and below) the Earth, as viewed from our place of birth at the exact time of our very first breath.
When we learn the art of Astrology and apply it to interpret our horoscope, we can read that map of "our personal place in Time and Space". As road-maps show us where roads will lead us, so can the horoscope map show us where our Soul will lead us, and the best ways to get there.
Michael Star takes a psycho-spiritual approach to Astrology and his interpretations of the birth horoscope. He says:
- "The horoscope does not tell us what we are, but what we can become.
- The horoscope does not tell us what to to do, but what we can choose to do with what we've been given.
- The horoscope does not tell us when to do things, but when it is the best time to choose to do things.
- The horoscope does not tell us how to do things, but how best to do things using our own strategies - which are our strengths."
Michael was born in one of the
best cities in the world, Toronto, Canada, home of the Skydome and the CN Tower (which from 1976 to 2010 was the tallest free-standing structure and tallest tower in the world; and as of 2014, is the fifth-tallest free-standing structure and the third-tallest free-standing tower in the world, and the tallest structure in North America).
Toronto is the largest city in Canada, and the 4th largest city in North America (after Mexico City, New York and Los Angeles). It is often referred to as "Hollywood North" because of the many major movies filmed there (as is Vancouver, BC). Michael lives in Mississauga, the large city just west of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on the north shore of Lake Ontario.
