2019:

18 May - 1 June: Two weeks of absolute peace and the sort of elemental beauty that really questions why we choose to live in southeast England; but we do, and we will return again. Waking to an orchestra of peewit and curlew and sheep and surf, before Stanley starts smelling of breakfast bacon is, really, perfection Thanks! J&E S, UK.

13-20 July: It was such a pleasure to stay n this cozy home and village, with the view beyond. Thank you for keeping such a well-equipped kitchen! Missing only a tea cozy and blackout curtains upstairs. C B-S, USA.

20-27 July: We loved staying in the cottage. Enjoyed the views and the nice weather. Did a lot of hiking in the surroundings. Hope to come back. Thanks a lot. L&J. Netherlands.

 

2018:

1-8 January: Had such a lovely week here, lots of beautiful sights, and an aurora to top it off! Such a beautiful house. Thanks. I will be back. A.R. & L.C., Australia.

21-28 April: A wonderful week-the wildlife, the beaches and the history have all been mazing. We have had good weather and a great house to return to each day. Stanley [the kitchen range] has been a highlight! Have loved every minute. P.&D. M. London.

5-12 May: Wonderful to learn about the archaeology and natural history of Lewis, based at this beautiful location. With no prior inklings, Jim has discovered his maternal Morrison connections. To be continued. L. & J. A. Canada.

9-15 June: I have been so happy and relaxed here! A wonderful warm home, and no hardship to stay indoors for a day and a half. Walking from the door was a challenge, but highly recommended for the solitude and oneness with nature. Many thanks indeed. M.A., Staffordshire.

22-29 July: Thank you. Had a lovely stay here. First half of the week was fabulously hot, second half fabulously wet. But was a good break. Thanks! K.&J. C. Stirling.

29 July - 5 August: We enjoyed our seventh (!) stay in this lovely spot. Weather very mixed, ranging from sunshine and 18 degree temperatures to driving rain and high winds. We visited all our usual haunts-Tolsta, Ness and South Lochs, and on the wettest day the museum in Lews Castle. We had an excellent venison meal at The Boatshed restaurant in the Royal Hotel. Thanks once again Pat and Bob. B. and M. H., Argyle.

5-12 August: We have really enjoyed our week in this very cosy and comfortable house. Our favourite room with a view is the sun lounge. We were so impressed with the history here, our visit to the Callanish Stones and hiking around the many isolated cairns was special. Also Arnol Blackhouse museum. Exploring the village and coast in high winds was an experience to remember. More sun and warmth than we had hoped for! M.&M. G, Switzerland.

12-26 August: We had a wonderful stay in this wonderful warm house. Stanley [the kitchen stove] was a great friend, we made great dinners on him. Lewis is a beautiful island that surprises you over and over again. Best regards. L. VDB. Belgium.

2-9 September: Warm and cosy with a great view in all weathers. We explored Lewis and Harris and thoroughly enjoyed all of it. Some lovely walks too, given a decent day or so. A. A., Northampton.

16-23 September: House was comfortable, conservatory was lovely and light. Weather was very good so we could get out a lot. Unfortunately we failed with the peat fire. M. &J. R, Southam.

2016

29 March - 3 April: We had an amazing holiday and were blessed with fantastic weather. Very cozy cottage. Thank you. LM. Glasgow.

4-11 June: A wonderful place to stay. Waited for the surf and managed one day at Dalmore. Great walks! Thank you. M.H., and A.W., Toowong, Australia.

18-25 June: Who needs a TV when one has a view like this! Made good use of the sunroom every evening. Saw orcas passing by off the shore! An abundance of wildlife, including minke and humpback whales off Tiumpan Head. Lewis is fantastic! J. & W. S., North Yorkshire.

25 June - 2 July: Cottage had everything that we needed. Was a bit windy all week but still had a great time: thank you. S.&B.M., Fife. (Fishermen Beware of wading lochside, very dangerous, fish small. Better with boat.)

2 - 9 July: Home away from home. Lovely house, lovely island, don't want to leave. Tapadh leibh. T. & M., Edinburgh.

9 - 23 July: Had a wonderful two weeks. Cottage brilliant as a place to see so much historic stuff, especially how people lived 1000 years ago-makes the cottage even more welcoming. One day rain in two weeks, amazing! K.C., Stirling.

23-30 July: We loved the cottage and how it is so much more than a holiday let. Well equipped and relaxed. An amazing week exploring Lewis and Harris. Saw an eagle yesterday near Dalbeag. P.H., Kent.

30 July - 6 August: This beautiful week on the Isle of Lewis went by too quickly. We hope to return one day. B., S. and T. Zurich, Switzerland.

20-27 August: Super weather. St. Kilda is really a worthwhile trip. Food at "40 North" awesome, but portion sizes are huge! B., P. & F., Oxford.

3-17 September: We've had a fabulous two weeks, so sad to leave. Great cottage! Lewis and Harris are amazing, and local people have been friendly. Could go on and on…. R. & A. G., Sussex.

2015

4-11 April : We had a great week, peaceful and relaxing. Big skies, even though quite windy! L. & A. U, Scotland.

30 May - 6 June: Was impressed by the stones, not just Callanish but also the pebbles on the beaches and the outcrops on the cliffs. Lovely cozy cottage. S. & G. P., Endland.

13/20 June: The cottage has been lovely and comfortable, with everything we needed. We will certainly stay here again when we visit next time. L. & A., England.

27 June - 4 July: Cozy and comfortable cottage, all we could wish for. Weather not the best, but we managed to cover the island and would come again. A. & M. D., England.

13-18 July: We have spent some wonderful days in Brue at Ocean View. The weather has been beautiful and we have enjoyed it very much - lovely place. I., I. & L., Denmark.

18-25 July: Lovely hours were spent here looking out the windows at the humans and the animals. Rosie learned to say 'double bass." We had 100% good times. E., K. & R., England.

22-29 August: This is a beautiful house. It feels like home as soon as you walk through the door. More comfortable and well equipped than most holiday lets. 29 August - 5 September: Ocean View was the ideal location for us to enjoy Stornoway, St. Kilda, Callanish, the Iron Age house, the Blackhouse Village to name but a few. An ideal relaxation spot with friendly neighbours and awesome scenery. Love to return soon. Thanks. J.D., England.

17 - 24 October: We felt very much at home, such a beautiful house and location. We explored Harris and Lewis - Reef beach is simply the finest beach we have seen. The wildlife treated us to a show too, including Golden eagles and curious seals. Thank you very much. B. & M. G., England.

5-12 April: A lovely place for a 40th anniversary. D.B., England.

7-14 June: Ocean View was a delight, especially the bamboo couch with loch and ocean to stare at. We had amazing trip to St. Kilda with Sea Trek, friendly and knowledgeable. P. & E. W, Netherlands.

14-21 June: We had a wonderful week at Ocean View. Highlights were a cycle ride to Tiumpan Head, flying a kite on Luskentyre beach, and sighting sea eagles at Bogha Glas. S. M., Scotland.

21-28 June: Fun-filled days with Dun Carloway broch, Callanish stones, Europie park, beach and tea room, Uig beach and community café, and lots more. Loved relaxing at night. I.S., Scotland.

28 June-5 July: Wonderful week visiting the stunning beaches at Dalbeag, Dalmor, Great Bernera and north of Stornoway. Great weather and lovely sunsets. Had a nive walk fro Dalmor beach to Gearrannan Blackhouse Village. Ocean View was perfect-we mastered the Stanley stove and even made scones and cake! T.C., Scotland

12-19 July: We had a wonderful week in Ocean View and visited the stone circle at Callanish nearly every day. O.W., Germany.

19-26 July: We had a fantastic week. The weather was the best we've ever had in Lewis, hitting 29 degrees some days. J.M., Scotland.

26 July-2 August: Great House, well equipped. We enjoyed our stay very much. Top of the list: Westside Agricultural Fair and the small beach just before the Ness lighthouse. Unfortunately a drunk guy smashed our parked car with his motorbike on our last evening. Thanks for being such a great help, Suzi. I.K., Germany.

2-16 August: A lovely two weeks rest in a very peaceful cottage. Saw eagles (golden and sea) , short-eared owl, and a cuckoo on the beach! A great holiday! G.M, England.

16-23 August: A lovely place for our end of three weeks in Scotland, doing the West Highland Way. Perfect for rest and recover. Thanks. A.H., Austria.

2013

6-13 April: Wonderful week in a spectacular setting. Loved the peat fire, and of course "Stanley" for all those meals. Fantastic weather all week. Some great walks. Highly recommend Butt of Lewis, Bernera, Tolsta Beach, Carloway., Dal Mor, Dal Beag (a MUST DO). Well worth going to the beach for sunset. Did Sea Trek RIB tour, great fun, kids loved it. 25 May - 1 June: A wonderful base for this magical place. Perfect for two couples, glorious views and we had superb weather. L & A P., Canada.

1-8 June: Very enjoyable week. M &C R, Manchester.

8-15 June: We have always wanted to come to the Outer Hebrides and now, finally, we have made it. And it is just fantastic here in any kind of weather. Coming back after a long day touring the island is great too. A cozy warm home, thanks to Mr. Stanley the stove! J J., Germany.

15-22 June: Excellent cottage, love the view in all weathers. Enjoyed cooking on the stove. Loads of wonderful walks on beaches and at historic sites. Excellent meal at Borve House Country Hotel. D & E D, Perthshire.

22-29 June: We had a wonderful week. Trips to various parts of the island, and always lovely to come home to Ocean View for the evening. Lovely place. ML & NA, Sweden.

29 June - 6 July: Wonderful cottage. Great location, great views. Everything you could ask for. Excellent. S.A., East Kilbride.

6-13 July: A very nice cottage with a beautiful view. We enjoyed it very much and our two boys loved playing at the old ruin. We saw the whole island and even sat on the beach and swam. Lovely beaches! 40 North has very good meals. Great week, thank you. K.K., Netherlands.

13-21 July: Great place to explore the island. Very central. Comfy house in all weathers. T.S. Australia.

21-28 July: Amazing views at sunset across the Atlantic. Lovely house in a stunning location. Loads of historic sites to visit in the area. Lovely weather for most of the week, rained the last day-who cares? Loads of flies outside, great beaches. R & S L., UK.

3-10 August: Brilliant week. Saw lots of wildlife all over the island; no sea mammals though, apart from seals. Saw golden eagles through the patio window-they were soaring and then banked down toward the beach, much to the dismay of the seabirds-two days in a row. Favourite beaches: Reef and Ness. Favourite eating out spot: The Boat Shed, Stornoway. R.M. Derbyshire.

10-17 August: We traveled throughout Lewis and Harris. Wherever we went we were met by the same very friendly welcome by local people-always pleasant and helpful. Weather behaved itself. Bought a fantastic Harris Tweed jacket. Saw three golden eagles and a black-tailed godwit. Best place to eat is Digby Chick in Stornoway. Excellent week! O.S. North Yorkshire.

24-31 August: Excellent cottage. Brilliant beaches and rocks (for the geologists). Altogether a great week here. H.J., East Yorkshire.

31 August - 7 September: Sticking with the Yorkshire theme, we are from West Yorkshire. Weather cleared up last two days. Attempted to drive most roads on the island in a week. Off to South Uist. Many thanks. I.H., Leeds.

7-21 September: Enjoyed a very peaceful and relaxing holiday. Just what we needed. Very good food at 40 North and Inn Between. M.M, UK.

2012

30 March - 6 April 2012: fantastic variety of weather, views, places visited in all quarters of Lewis and Harris. Returning to Stanley, music and books and excellent deli at "40 North". A long awaited visit has been rewarded with stunning vistas, four seasons in a day (including snow), wildlife galore, beaches, big skies, hidden harbours-the next visit will not take so long. 21 July - ll August 2012: Amazing three weeks . Perfect vacation and house. Weather not amazing but made it all the more fun. A.S., London

18 August - 1 September 2012: A lovely spacious cottage, beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the loch and sea. Variety of birds has been amazing!! Stunning beaches at Uig and on Harris, well worth the drive. Frightful storms and rainfall for a few days made the scenery moody and the sea and waves spectacular. SeaTrek trip was exhilarating, saw common and grey seals, basking sharks, minke whale, gannets, kittiwakes and so much more. My 11 year old has never laughed so hard, at sea speeding over the waves. Europie playpark and tearoom was lovely. Stanley is fab--I have fallen for him big time. Peat fire very cozy. N.G., England.

9-15 September 2012: Our second visit, and again a pleasure. The week has passed so fast. Weather wild but managed to get some walking in: recommend the Great Bernera coastal trail. Waiting for our next visit already. Thanks. M.L., Israel.

2010

Fantastic way to escape the buzz of Christmas in Holland. Beautiful house on a lovely island. We hope to be back soon. F. and R., 19/12-02/01/10

What a beautiful time we had. We returned after seven years when we came before we had our children (3 & 6 years), and once again the magic of this place was evident. Weather could've been better but the girls had fun! Cottage is great too. Hope to return. M. and K., Easter 2010

Weather has been fab, only rained on Friday and windy over night. Lots of lovely long walks along beaches, Valtos, Ardroil, Traighe Mor. Great coastal walk round the Butt. R., A. and R. 10-17/5/10

We spent 14 days in this lovely cottage with the cosy peat fire. We walked around the island and visited various places. Did a lot of bird watching-larks, lapwings, redshanks, oystercatchers, terns, raven, buzzards, dunlins, ringed plovers etc. May 27 a lot of Arctic terns arrived to breed near the ocean. A week is a very short time at Ocean View, although the days are so long. Had a fantastic range of experiences with the weather, scenery and birds, and have been very cosy round the peat fire. S. and M. H., 29/5-5/6/10
