Ocean View (Sealladh na Mara) is a traditional croft house overlooking Loch Mor Bharabhais and the open coast of the North Atlantic. Fourteen miles from the airport and ferry terminal at Stornoway, it stands in its own grounds and is surrounded by a croft field. The house is refurbished to a high standard, and features a comfortable lounge with open hearth (peat supplied), sun lounge opening onto patio, dining room, large fully equipped kitchen with dining area, two large bedrooms, two bathrooms, exposed stone walls, and oil-fired full central heating. The shore and a waymarked coastal path are eight minutes walk from the house, and Barvas Beach is a further twenty minute walk along the shore. Exellent salmon and trout fishing can be had in Loch Mor Bharabhais at the bottom of the croft field behind the house. Inland lies one of the most extensive peatlands in Europe, offering unlimited opportunities for moor and hill walking, loch fishing and bird watching. This coast is a nesting area for many sea and shore birds, as well as a major migratory departure point for Iceland and the Arctic regions. A pair of otters inhabit a nearby burn, and seals and whales can be seen in the coastal waters of Lewis. Ocean View is within a few miles of the Calanais Standing Stones and many other archaeological monuments and cultural sites of interest, as well as of galleries and artists' studios.
