"PLAIN VANILLA" PBEM PANZER GENERAL (DOS)
This is the FLOPPY DISK PG (DOS) V. 1.2 executable. There are SO many problems with the infamous SSI "patches", that it is best that PG (DOS) enthusiasts be given the chance to download the REAL thing ! In the overwhelming majority of cases, PG (DOS) hobbyists will have to utilise their CD-ROM installation to "construct" the floppy disk installation should they choose to do so, as the floppy disk PG (DOS) version is, essentially, a.....collector's item ! The aforesaid executable is THE critical piece they will be needing....
NOW, it is high time that someone told PG (DOS) enthusiasts "out there" the NAKED TRUTH about PG (DOS) customisation (a la Steel Panthers). Whoever does not want to play PG (DOS) without his CD-ROM better forget REAL and FLEXIBLE customisation. The horrors of the likes of "APPEND" are just not worth it.....!!!
This file includes DETAILED and PRECISE instructions on how to effect a CD-ROM to FLOPPY DISK "conversion" with an eye towards FULL CUSTOMISATION !
This is SSI's very own PG (DOS) User Guide in electronic file format (Windows Help file format). It contains all information found in the standard booklet that used to come with the game title package when commercially purchased. As an INTRODUCTORY information source, it is not bad at all ! There are A FEW inaccuracies here and there but, by and large, it IS a good introduction to the game....
This is the PG (DOS) "Framework" file. It is a re-working and expansion of parts of SSI's PG (DOS) User Guide. The emphasis here is on clarification, attention to detail and sensitisation of hobbyists to the fact that there are many ways that one can play this wonderful game.
This file contains virtually all of the information found in SSI's PG (DOS) ReadMe File that comes with the game title package when commercially purchased and installed, and much much more ! The contents of this file are primarily (but not exclusively) oriented towards someone playing against the programme's AI module. To the extent that such play can be viewed as reasonable TACTICS TRAINING GROUNDS for someone who eventually intends to become a serious PBEM hobbyist, the embedded SSI ReadMe file CAN serve a useful function. Among other things, the embedded SSI ReadMe file contains the electronic version of the scenario-specific information found in Prima Publishing's "PG - The Official Strategy Guide". Beware though, if a player were to keep on consulting this information source on scenario-specific questions while being active as a PBEM hobbyist, he would be inviting DISASTER !
SOME OF THE INFORMATION IN THIS FILE MAY ALSO BE MISLEADING OR PLAINLY WRONG ! THOSE HOBBYISTS WHO DO NOT HAVE A HARD COPY OF PRIMA PUBLISHING'S "PG -- THE OFFICIAL STRATEGY GUIDE" MAY FIND THE DISCUSSION OF SOME ADVANCED "GAME MECHANICS" INTERESTING AND, EVEN, USEFUL.
This is the "celebrated" PG (DOS) Scenario Balancing Guide of the LeadEaters..... As most serious PBEM PG (DOS) hobbyists have known for some time now, many scenaria tend to be inherently (a priori) imbalanced when played without any experience/prestige handicaps/boosters. In the past, a member of the LeadEaters has taken it upon himself to provide the PG (DOS) hobbyist community at large with suggestions as to how one could go about balancing things out. At the same time, this individual attempted to deflect hobbyists' attentions from the GROSSLY IRRELEVANT scenario analyses found in SSI's PG (DOS) ReadMe file and Prima Publishing's "PG: The Official Strategy Guide".... His efforts are definitely COMMENDABLE. So is his decision to put his work in the PUBLIC DOMAIN. However, his work should be viewed as rather tentative. Most probably, he compiled the contents of his guide in haste and the unevenness shows... Many of his balancing suggestions are highly questionable ! Nevertheless, prior to starting a new scenario game, PG (DOS) enthusiasts are STRONGLY ADVISED to consult this file in conjunction with PGSCENDAT.XLS and PGVICTOR.XLS.
PROCEED WITH SOME CAUTION THOUGH......
This Excel V. 5.0c spreadsheet file contains a complete listing of very important play parameters for each one of the 38 scenaria natively found in PG (DOS) V. 1.2. Prior to starting a new scenario game, PG (DOS) enthusiasts are STRONGLY ADVISED to consult this file in conjunction with PGVICTOR.XLS.
This Excel V. 5.0c spreadsheet file contains a complete listing of PBEM victory conditions for each one of the 38 scenaria natively found in PG (DOS) V. 1.2. Prior to starting a new scenario game, PG (DOS) enthusiasts are STRONGLY ADVISED to consult this file in conjunction with PGSCNDAT.XLS.
This file contains detailed PBEM procedures for PG (DOS) scenario play with emphasis on concurrent, mirrored play arrangements.
This document outlines the issues underlying the design and implementation of an ALL HUMAN (PBEM) Campaign play mode EMULATING the usual state of affairs where the computer AI (programmed opponent) controls the Allied side. It is also intended to serve as a fundamental stepping stone towards more advanced experimentation with what is known as Inter-linked Scenario Play Mode.
