PANZER GENERAL (DOS) PBEM RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT SETUP

ALLIED/PANZER GENERAL PG ADD-ON SCENARIO MODIFICATIONS

01) The Allied/Panzer General PG Scenario Add-ons are TECHNICALLY UNSUITABLE for ANY TYPE of campaign play. The Centre exclusively focusses on stand alone scenario PBEM.

02) Hobbyists who attempt to play Allied/Panzer General PG Add-on scenaria against the programme's AI are likely to find their struggle more difficult than usual...... However, the Centre does not concern itself with issues arising from play against the programme's AI.

03) The SSI developers chose not to visually identify the hexes at the edges of maps that are NOT enterable by units. To practically assist players conducting unit operations near map edges, the Centre has employed ocean looking terrain designated as "Off Limits" in combination with a normal neutral territory designation to highlight the non-enterable status of all such map edge hexes.

04) The SSI developers chose to describe ALL sea hexes as "Ocean". To practically assist players conducting amphibious unit operations, the Centre has changed the description of every sea hex adjacent to at least one enterable land hex to "Coast".

05) The SSI developers chose not to visually distinguish port cities from port facilities. Units stationed in port cities are subject to faster entrenchment and lower combat initiative caps when compared to units stationed in port facilities. Unlike in Armed Conflict (DOS), the Centre has chosen NOT TO DO ANYTHING about this in order to preserve the port names as originally specified by the SSI developers........

06) In Panzer General, the SSI developers chose to turn every shore city hex which is neither a port city nor a port facility one into an embarkation city hex. In Allied General, they broke with.... tradition. To practically assist players conducting sea transport operations, in the case of the Allied General PG Scenario Add-on, the Centre has converted all such hexes into embarkation city hexes thus establishing uniformity across the Add-on board.

07) The SSI developers chose to introduce units in various scenaria STARTING with more than three levels of experience (3 stars). At the Centre, we have concluded that this SSI feature is detrimental to quality PBEM. To this effect, all units in the Allied/Panzer General PG Scenario Add-ons have been capped at three levels of STARTING experience, maximum.

08) The SSI developers chose to introduce units in various scenaria STARTING with more strength points than their corresponding levels of STARTING experience (stars) would normally justify. At the Centre, we have capped the STARTING strength points of all units to the number of levels (stars) of their corresponding STARTING experience.

09) The SSI developers chose to introduce tank class units in various scenaria STARTING with more than two levels of entrenchment. During actual play, the game engine never allows tank class units to achieve more than two levels of entrenchment. At the Centre, we have decided to do NOTHING about this obvious anomaly. Yes, this WAS a compromise.......

10) The SSI developers were not too careful with STARTING unit placement and organic transport. The Centre has corrected a few instances of same hex unit collocation and inappropriate granting of organic transport means.

11) The SSI developers were not very careful with unit orientation either. The Centre has reversed unit orientation in a number of scenaria to better reflect the expected direction of unit movement across map areas.

12) In a few instances, the SSI developers assigned incorrect nationalities to a number of STARTING units in various scenaria without very good reason. The Centre has changed these units' nationalities to better reflect realities......

13) The PBEM requirements underlying the Allied General PG Scenario Add-on necessitated a prolongation of the maximum possible duration of any Add-on scenario by one full turn. The Centre has implemented this necessary change in all 39 Add-on scenaria.

14) Due to the prolongation of the maximum possible duration of all Allied General PG Add-on scenaria by one full turn, the Centre has also appropriately modified certain starting prestige amounts to compensate for the additional prestige bonuses expected to accrue to the combatants on the very last scenario turn.
