The second issue of BACK OF A CAR contains a flexi-disc featuring "Country Morn" a unreleased Chris Bell song. David Bell, Chris’ older brother, let me use the song and seems pleased with BOACs keeping the spirit of Big Star alive. During my Big Star "pilgrimage" to Memphis in May of 95 I got to meet David and cruising the streets, along with Pam McGaha, listening to this song (loud!) was a pleasant, somewhat surreal experience. The song is a typical Bell composition: mid-tempo and melancholic yet optimistic. The musical bed is the same as "Watch The Sunrise" from #1Record, which in keeping could open to a Country Morn.

"Country Morn"
* Chris Bell - lyrics/vocals Bell/Chilton - music *
Ever wonder what’s going on around you
Ever stop and think that you’ve got to run or lose?
I know we have friends who will always tell you lies
Don’t you array what you’ve done wrong,
just remember it won’t last long
Do you ask yourself "What good am I?"
Ever wonder who cares if you live or die?
I know there are men who will hit you from behind
Don’t you array what you’ve done wrong,
just remember it won’t last long
Ever ask yourself what’s the use in being ‘round?
Ever ask yourself what’s the reason why you’re so down?
You know you control how you feel at times like this
Don’t you array what you’ve done wrong,
just remember it won’t last long
